Job summary

GM Defense is seeking a Sr. System Engineer to lead and execute systems engineering across secure GM Defense IT environments.

You will partition functionality, define requirements, and ensure built-in quality with testing and traceability, while guiding less experienced colleagues. You will collaborate with enterprise architecture and security partners to maintain compliant, reliable systems, support project delivery, and drive continuous improvement in operational health across multiple GM

Qualifications

• > Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• > 7+ yrs of experience delivering IT systems in a professional or corporate environment.
• > Ability to work independently on significant technical matters with minimal guidance.
• > Experience gathering requirements and delivering robust systems across multiple teams.
• > Experience in systems engineering, infrastructure support, or security operations.
• > Experience developing applications, automation, tooling, or technical solutions to improve supportability.
• > Strong written and verbal communication across customers, project teams, and security partners.
• > Travel required; most travel within SE Michigan 50-60%, some 10-15% elsewhere.

Responsibilities

• > Work across project teams to develop requirements, coordinate with partner support, execute tasks, deliver solutions and provide lifecycle support.
• - Partner with GM IT enterprise architecture to improve applications, tools, and solutions while conforming to cybersecurity controls.
• - Collaborate with GM IT security leadership to support cleared and controlled systems and maintain secure environments.
• - Manage and improve operational health of information systems including patches, upgrades, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• - Monitor, validate, and document security controls and support audit activities.
• - Develop and maintain self-help tools, guides, and knowledge articles to improve customer interaction and support processes.
• - Serve as a day-to-day technical point of contact for customers and internal IT teams.
• - Develop and operate tools/processes to manage secure and healthy environments.
• - Host triage sessions and coordinate cross-functional workstreams to resolve incidents and root causes.
• - Identify opportunities to improve processes and translate challenges into actionable solutions for GM Defense.
• - Mentor less experienced team members and drive strong execution across teams.
