Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS seeks a systems engineer for NAVAIR to evaluate software for naval aviation programs, reviewing OEM code and deliverables to ensure security, quality, and DoD compliance. You will provide technical leadership across the software lifecycle and liaise with government stakeholders.

The role emphasizes review rather than development, focusing on source code, architecture, test results, and documentation, with travel to audits and integration efforts as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a related technical field.
• DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS.
• 6–10 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with C, C++, Ada, Assembly or Python.
• Willingness to work in classified environments.

Responsibilities

• Review OEM-developed software, code, repositories and deliverables.
• Assess software quality, cybersecurity, and compliance with standards.
• Evaluate CDRL docs such as SVDs, SDPs, SDDs and test reports.
• Review SAST, SCA, dynamic analysis and test results.
• Verify MISRA C/C++ and SEI CERT C compliance.
• Assess structural code coverage and reliability for safety-critical avionics.
• Identify risks and advise leadership on trade-offs.
• Support acquisition and modernization as technical lead or program support engineer.
• Coordinate with OEMs, contractors, and government stakeholders.
• Present findings, risks, and readiness assessments to leadership.
• Travel as needed to support audits and technical reviews.
