Job summary

Cyngn, Inc. in Mountain View, CA, seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to lead system definition for autonomous vehicles and robotics platforms. You will convert high-level product intents into detailed specifications and verification plans using a structured V-model approach.

The role spans sensors, compute, power, actuation, and safety-critical behaviors, requiring deep robotics/industrial systems experience and close collaboration with cross-functional teams. On-site work is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering for complex electro-mechanical systems (robotics, vehicles, industrial automation, autonomy).
• Strong experience translating product-level requirements into detailed engineering specifications and verification plans.
• Solid understanding of industrial safety standards, particularly ANSI B56 and related AMR / industrial vehicle safety frameworks.
• Hands-on familiarity with low-level sensors and feedback systems, including angle and position sensors, temperature sensors, current and voltage sensing.
• Working knowledge of motor systems and actuation (BLDC, PMSM), with fault detection and protection.
• Experience defining interfaces between sensors, embedded controllers, power electronics, and higher-level compute.
• Strong technical communication skills; on-site work in Mountain View, CA.

Responsibilities

• Translate product requirements into complete system specifications (L2+).
• Define architectures and interfaces for autonomous vehicle platforms, including sensors, compute, power, actuation.
• Own requirements decomposition, allocation, and traceability across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software domains.
• Develop system-level verification and validation plans with V-model alignment.
• Lead trade studies, risk assessments, and architectural decisions focusing on safety and reliability.
• Act as systems engineering contact for industrial safety certification.
• Collaborate with product management, safety, hardware, firmware, software, and test teams.
• Drive cross-functional design reviews and readiness milestones.
• Support integration, debugging, and validation during development and deployment.
• Incorporate industrial safety requirements into architecture, test planning.
• Support ANSI B56 compliance efforts.
• Define safety functions, fault responses, and operational limits.
• Ensure system behaviors defined for normal, degraded, and fault conditions.
• Contribute to safety documentation and certification artifacts.
