Job summary

Leonardo DRS is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer in Menomonee Falls, WI to lead the architecture and validation of power electronics and drives for complex subsystems.

You will develop concepts, analyze, and specify control and power architectures for motor drives, power converters, and UPS systems, spanning from several horsepower to multi-megawatts. Strong leadership and collaboration are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years of detailed design experience in power conversion applications.
• Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink for electrical system simulations.
• Model-based design experience of power electronic systems.
• Real-time modeling experience of power electronic systems.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs with cost as a key variable.
• Conceptualize the architecture of power electronics, drives, and uninterruptible power supplies.
• Create system-level technical documentation and budget estimates for proposals.
• Identify and develop strategies to retire key development risks.
• Verify product or subsystem performance through simulation, analysis, or laboratory tests.
• Generate design requirements to specify components and subsystems using a requirements traceability matrix.
• Provide technical leadership on large projects and delegate tasks to engineers to meet deadlines and budget.

Job Summary

Join our Menomonee Falls, WI team as a Senior Systems Engineer. This position offers an opportunity to develop some of the world’s most highly power dense solutions, the ability to work on unique applications, the ability to provide technical oversight and guidance, and the opportunity to mentor and coach upcoming engineers. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, analyzing, and specifying the control and power architecture of complex systems and subsystems for motor drives, power converters, and uninterruptible power supplies ranging from several horsepower to multi-megawatts.

What You Will Do

• Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable.
• Conceptualize the architecture of complex systems and subsystems relating to power electronics, drives and uninterruptible power supplies.
• Create the system level technical documentation and budget estimates for proposals.
• Identify and develop strategies to retire key development risks.
• Verify product or subsystem performance through simulation, analysis, and/or laboratory test.
• Generate the necessary design requirements to specify components and subsystems of a product through the use of a requirements traceability matrix (RTM).
• Provide technical leadership on large projects, with the ability to identify and delegate tasks to an engineering team, and drive completion of activities on time and budget.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in the field of electrical engineering or an equivalent technical field.
• 8+ years of detailed design experience in power conversion applications.
• Proficiency with Matlab and Simulink simulation tools for simulation of electrical systems down to a component level.
• Model-based design experience of power electronic systems desired.
• Real-time modeling experience of power electronic systems desired.
• Experience with Navy applications and market.

U.S. Citizenship required. This position may require an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
