Job summary

Rex Moore Group, Inc. seeks a Senior Systems Designer II to lead the development of low voltage and safety systems for electrical projects in the Central Valley. You will draft in Revit, develop project specifications, and mentor junior staff.

You will need strong knowledge of California Electric Code and NFPA, and you will collaborate with Mechanical and Technology teams to ensure precise, high-quality designs from concept through construction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; NICET III certification preferred.
  • Minimum two years as a Senior Systems Designer.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of California Electrical Code and NFPA.
  • Ability to lead design of medium to large projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Provide low voltage/safety systems design support under Senior Design staff.
  • Autonomously complete design drafting primarily in Revit.
  • Maintain design documentation and setup Revit models.
  • Develop design details in AutoCAD and prepare project specifications.
  • Develop Revit families and 3D modelling for low voltage systems (Fire Alarm, Nurse Call, Access Control, Cameras).
  • Coordinate electrical loads with Mechanical and other disciplines.
  • Review product submittals and respond to RFIs.
  • Lead and mentor junior staff; perform advanced code compliance reviews.

Job Overview

The Senior Systems Designer II, will assume a leadership role within our dynamic design team, bringing extensive experience and advanced expertise to the forefront of our electrical projects. In this senior-level position, you will play a critical role in shaping and overseeing the development of intricate electrical systems, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the highest standards of precision and innovation.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks
  • Provide low voltage/safety systems design support under the direction of the Senior Design staff with minimal over-site.
  • Autonomously complete design drafting primarily in Autodesk Revit.
  • Daily tasks include the following:
    • Maintaining design documentation
    • Setup of Revit models
    • Development of design details in Autodesk AutoCAD
    • Develop and prepare project specifications
    • Develop new and more advanced Revit Families
    • 3D modelling, device selections, and circuiting of low voltages systems:
      • Fire Detection and Alarm
      • Nurse Call
      • Access Control
      • Security / Cameras
      • Safety-Related Phone Systems
      • Two-Way Communications
  • Coordination of electrical loads and requirements with Mechanical, Technology, and other discipline plans.
  • Calculations in support of above modelled equipment.
  • Validation of design against client design criteria, pre-award direction, and scope of work
  • Review of product submittals
  • Respond to client/construction questions (RFI’s)
  • Attend client design coordination meetings and providing report out to Senior Design Staff and Project Management
  • Attend Department, Company, and project management meetings
  • Assist with department development and improvement tasks.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff
    • Provide advanced code compliance review
    • Lead project designs utilizing junior staff effectively
  • Participate in skills training and continuing education to further develop professional skills
  • Innovate processes to accelerate design development, improve quality of designs, and increase efficiency of transition from design phase to construction.
  • Utilize cloud-based scheduling tools for design task management
  • Participate actively in team building activities, cross training
  • Follow corporate HR policies regarding project time keeping, attendance
    • Designers are scheduled to work in-office, 0700 – 1600, M-F
    • Additional hours may be required to meet deadlines and/or support client needs
  • Lead the Quality Assurance program for assigned design projects
  • Validate drawings package for delivery to client
  • Guide Pre-Award, Construction, and client staff on design options to reduce costs, improve installation quality, and/or increase value of end product.
  • Take initiative to research gaps in knowledge to resolve challenges independently
  • Support the team as required to balance work load and share responsibility

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to verbally communicate: convey detailed and accurate instructions and information.

  • Push, pull, lift, and carry at least 10 pounds.
  • Frequently required to walk and stand. This position may involve infrequent site visits which will require the ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Required to have visual acuity with or without correction in order to read contract documents, analyze data, view a computer monitor, and proof-read documents to identify errors.
  • Required to use fingers and hands: type using a computer keyboard, handle, feel, and reach.
  • May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
