Job summary

Peraton is seeking a NEXCOM Senior Systems Design Engineer in Chicago, IL to lead system engineering for large-scale radio network equipment across FAA centers. You will drive site surveys, configurations, rack/cable layouts, and MBSE-based design packages while coordinating with FAA and field teams.

The role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership to deliver compliant, optimized designs and drive engineering reviews and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a BS/BA with advanced degrees or equivalent experience, plus extensive systems engineering background.
• Experience applying MBSE principles and architecture development.
• Ability to perform engineering trade studies and technical evaluations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for working groups and design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Lead large-scale radio network planning, site surveys, and configurations.
• Create site installation engineering packages with drawings, BOM and steps.
• Develop system design packages to support site prep, procurement, and installation.
• Support site engineering packages for radio equipment installations.
• Perform requirements definition and system decomposition.
• Use MBSE methodologies for modeling and documentation.
• Conduct trade-off analyses for design optimization.
• Provide technical leadership to project teams and junior engineers.
• Facilitate engineering discussions and design reviews with stakeholders.
