Job summary

Maricopa County Recorder's Office (MCRO) seeks a Senior Systems Administrator to design, implement, and secure enterprise infrastructure, including Windows Server, AD, VMware, Azure, storage, backups, and cloud services. You will lead complex projects, set technical standards, mentor staff, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable systems.

You will participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure continuous support of critical infrastructure, with hybrid and remote work

Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience administering and supporting enterprise servers, virtualization, cloud services, identity platforms, storage, backups, containers, or related infrastructure technologies
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, identity and access management, multifactor authentication, and role-based permissions
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, hybrid cloud environments, VMware ESXi and vCenter, storage platforms, backups, restoration, and system monitoring
  • Experience administering or supporting Docker, Kubernetes, containerized applications, and related infrastructure hosting technologies

Responsibilities

  • Performs systems and application support at the highest level of technical expertise, mostly independently, including Windows servers, file/print services, VMware, and AD, plus backup and storage resources
  • Administers, designs, implements, maintains, and modifies computer systems, servers, disk storage systems, SANs, data backups, software applications, security measures, components, and/or databases
  • Provides technical support and coordinates migration of new or current systems
  • Leads staff, mentoring, assigning and monitoring work
  • Leads deployment of new systems and roadmaps
  • Manages projects, research, analysis, and requirements gathering
  • Troubleshoots issues and participates in 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Reviews emerging technologies and shapes department direction
  • Performs monthly security patch reviews for Windows servers and VMware hosts

About the Position

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, maintenance, and security of the organization's enterprise infrastructure. This position serves as the highest level of technical expertise for server, virtualization, storage, backup, and cloud technologies, ensuring the availability, reliability, and security of mission- critical systems. The Senior Systems Administrator leads complex infrastructure projects, develops technical standards, mentors other IT staff, and provides strategic recommendations for future technology initiatives. This position works closely with application development, cybersecurity, help desk, project management, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available technology solutions that support the organization's operational and strategic objectives. Participation in a rotating on- call schedule is required to ensure continuous support of critical infrastructure.

We Require
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience administering and supporting enterprise servers, virtualization, cloud services, identity platforms, storage, backups, containers, or related infrastructure technologies
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered in substitution for the minimum qualifications
Other Requirements
  • Must successfully complete the next scheduled Secretary of State Election Officer Certification
  • Must be eligible to vote in Arizona
  • Must pass applicable background screening
We Also Value
  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible systems administration or infrastructure engineering experience in an enterprise, public-sector, regulated, or mission- critical environment
  • Hands-on experience administering Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, identity and access management, multifactor authentication, and role- based permissions
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Azure, hybrid cloud environments, VMware ESXi and vCenter, storage platforms, backups, restoration, and system monitoring
  • Experience administering or supporting Docker, Kubernetes, containerized applications, and related application-hosting infrastructure
  • Experience with infrastructure patching, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, configuration management, capacity planning, performance monitoring, and lifecycle maintenance
  • Experience supporting application deployments, system integrations, upgrades, migrations, release activities, and production troubleshooting
  • Experience serving as a technical escalation point and providing guidance, peer review, training, or technical direction to other IT staff
  • Experience developing scripts or using administrative automation tools to improve infrastructure reliability, consistency, and efficiency
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery, business continuity, change management, incident management, and infrastructure security practices
  • Experience working with infrastructure vendors, service providers, licensing, warranties, and technical support agreements
  • Relevant Microsoft, Azure, VMware, Kubernetes, Linux, CompTIA, or other infrastructure certification
  • Experience with Cisco AnyConnect VPN solution

  • Administers, designs, implements, maintains, and modifies computer systems, servers, disk storage systems, SAN’s, data back-ups, software applications, security measures, components, and/or databases. Monitors and ensures the quality of applicable information technology and its related components
  • Provides Technical support and is responsible for coordinating the migration of any new or current systems
  • Serves as a lead to staff, including mentoring, assigning, and monitoring work, and providing direction

  • Manages projects and performs related research, analysis, and requirements gathering

Working Conditions

Most work is performed in both office and remote work environments. Employees may be eligible for hybrid work arrangements in accordance with Office policies and operational requirements. Regular on- site attendance is required to support business operations, meetings, and critical functions.Extensive mandatory overtime is required during the Primary/General election cycle. The job requires participation in a 24/7 on- call rotation that requires addressing critical issues at various locations throughout Maricopa County. Work is primarily high volume in a fast- paced environment. It requires prolonged sitting while performing computer tasks.
