Job summary

Unconventional AI in Mountain View seeks a Member of Technical Staff, System Software to shape the software stack for a new type of computer. The role spans runtime software on Linux hosts and embedded firmware on SOCs, with strong emphasis on cross-functional collaboration with AI, system modeling, and hardware teams.

The candidate will bring up prototype silicon, drive drivers and host interfaces, and advance firmware and runtime integration using C/C++, Python, and robust debugging skills.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in embedded firmware or hardware-adjacent systems software with at least one silicon bring-up.
• Expertise in C/C++ on embedded processors, including interrupts, DMA, memory-mapped registers, boot/flash paths.
• Experience developing Linux drivers (kernel or user space) with PCIe/USB/UART/SPI and robust protocols.
• Strong Python and C/C++ software development, with integration across firmware, drivers, and host software.
• Ability to triage and solve anomalies across silicon, board, firmware, and software with clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Runtime: Build the runtime that executes compiled models on the machine, covering dispatch, data movement, and result readback.
• Embedded Firmware: Design and implement bare-metal firmware on the on-device processor, covering model execution, scheduling, and calibration.
• Drivers & Host Interface: Build and maintain drivers on both sides of the host/device boundary and the host–hardware protocol.
• Silicon & Software Bring-up: Lead post-silicon software bring-up with the Hardware team and validate measured behavior.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with AI, System Modeling, and Hardware teams to scale the platform.
