Job summary

United Launch Alliance in Decatur, Alabama is seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to ensure complex systems are designed, operated, and maintained safely. You will conduct hazard analyses, perform risk assessments, and lead safety verification and incident investigations.

The role emphasizes regulatory compliance, training, and safety reporting, with opportunities to influence system design and safety culture at ULA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
• Ability to combine engineering knowledge, hazard analysis skills, and regulatory compliance expertise to ensure complex systems are designed, operated, and maintained safely.
• Perform safety verification, validation, and testing; review designs and documentation for compliance.
• Incident investigation – Lead root cause analysis for safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare safety assessment reports, safety assurance records, and present findings to management or review boards.

Responsibilities

• Ability to combine engineering knowledge, hazard analysis skills, and regulatory compliance expertise to ensure complex systems are designed, operated, and maintained safely.
• Hazard identification & risk assessment – Conduct safety assessments, hazard analyses and evaluate mechanical, electrical, chemical, and other risks.
• Safety planning & integration – Develop and implement safety management plans, integrate safety into system designs, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
• Verification & validation – Perform safety verification, validation, and testing; review designs and documentation for compliance.
• Incident investigation – Lead root cause analysis for safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Training & awareness – Deliver safety training programs and maintain safety culture.
• Regulatory compliance – Stay current on applicable safety laws, industry standards, and client requirements.
• Reporting – Prepare safety assessment reports, safety assurance records, and present findings to management or review boards.
