Job summary

Raytheon’s System Safety / Human System Integration (HSI) Department focuses on identifying hazards, assessing risks, and ensuring safety across the system lifecycle to protect people and assets. The team develops MIL-STD-882E compliant programs and collaborates with engineering and customer teams in Aurora, CO.

Role requires coordinating with Safety Review Boards, performing hazard analyses, and supporting safety throughout program phases from startup to disposal.

Qualifications

• Degree in STEM fields with at least 5 years of relevant experience.

• Experience with complex systems and risk evaluation.

Raytheon’s System Safety / Human System Integration (HSI) Department ensures product safety by identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing solutions to protect people, hardware, and the environment. Leveraging rigorous engineering principles, the team integrates safety into every phase of the system lifecycle, enhancing reliability and safeguarding our warfighters.

Location: Aurora, CO

What You Will Do

System Safety Program Development and Execution

• Develop and implement MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs and perform associated tasks, analyses, and planning
• Conduct hazard and design analyses to ensure compliance with system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards

Stakeholder Coordination and Approval

• Collaborate with customer safety representatives to clarify system requirements and ensure proper allocation to software, hardware, and test personnel
• Coordinate with customer safety representatives and Safety Review Board authorities to gain safety approval
• Manage System Safety Working Groups with Raytheon and customer representatives

Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration

• Work across integrated product teams and engineering disciplines, including Systems Engineering, Software/Firmware, Electrical, and Hardware Engineering, to eliminate hazards or implement effective controls
• Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a comprehensive understanding of product architecture and design

Lifecycle Safety Oversight

• Support safety efforts from program startup through production, demilitarization, and disposal phases
• Brief safety considerations and program status during technical reviews and approval processes

Reporting & Documentation

• Interpret system requirements, specifications, and military standards.
• Prepare internal and customer‑facing reports detailing safety analyses and program results.
• Work within Special Access Program environments as required.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience
• Experience with System Safety Engineering and/or Software Safety Engineering
• Experience with complex systems and evaluating them for risk

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400). This includes hardware and software safety related tasks
• Experience with DoD System Safety Programs e.g. MIL-STD-882 / DO-178
• Experience with presentation skills
• Experience solving complex problems by leveraging available resources and research material
• Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development
• Experience interfacing with Human Systems Integration showcasing execution of Human Factors Engineering tasking involving MIL-STD-1472.
• Experience with Engineering Change Proposals, Engineering Review Boards, System Safety Working Groups
