Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Columbus, Ohio is seeking a seasoned software engineer to own design, development, and deployment of scalable data center controls software.

You will work across cross-disciplinary teams, influence peers and management, and lead key initiatives from concept to production while balancing short-term goals with long-term reliability. 3+ years of professional software development and a Bachelor's degree are required.

Job description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

Key Responsibilities

• Work in a cross-disciplinary setting with ability to influence and drive others.
• Have deep and far reaching impact on overall product design/solutions.
• Advise peer engineers and management team.
• Make technical trade-offs between short-term project goals and long-term business needs.
• Develop common libraries and reusable modular components to accelerate build cycles.
• Simplify, optimize, and accelerate the software development cycle for data center controls products.
• Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center controls products.
• Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers, senior management, and partner teams.
• Develop business justification and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
• Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating complete ownership.
• Work with global partners to deliver electrical and mechanical controls products.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby.
• 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) new and existing systems.
• 4+ years of systems development in an IT or data center environment.
• 2+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience.
• Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production.
• Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
• Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers.
