Job summary

Awetomaton, Ltd. is seeking a Senior System Administrator to keep mission systems reliable and support customers’ daily operations. You will administer Linux servers, monitor health, resolve issues, and help modernize existing systems.

The ideal candidate is adaptable and takes ownership of system availability. Active TS/SCI security clearance is required, with an anticipated December start and ability to work assigned shifts including onsite weekend checks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in IT field such as Computer Science, MIS, etc.
• 10+ years of experience in systems administration or closely related infrastructure operations.
• Strong Linux administration skills including installation, configuration, services, permissions, patching and log analysis.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues across servers, storage, networking, and application dependencies.
• Experience monitoring system health, remediating vulnerabilities, managing backups, and validating recovery procedures.
• Experience supporting at least one relational database platform (Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL) including health checks, backups, recovery and operational troubleshooting.
• Ability to document technical procedures, communicate clearly with technical and nontechnical users, and work independently within a coordinated support team.
• Willingness to work the assigned shift schedule and conduct regular onsite weekend health checks.

Responsibilities

Awetomaton is seeking a Senior System Administrator to keep mission systems reliable and support our customers' daily operations. You will administer Linux servers and supporting infrastructure, monitor application and database health, resolve operational issues, and help modernize established systems.

The ideal candidate is an adaptable, dependable administrator who takes ownership of system availability and works well with customers and teammates. Flexibility to support an assigned shift schedule and perform regular onsite weekend health checks is essential to this role. Active TS/SCI security clearance required. We are currently considering candidates with an anticipated December start.

Criteria for Success

• Reliably cover assigned shifts and complete regularly scheduled onsite weekend health checks, coordinating availability and coverage with the team.
• Identify degraded services early, resolve issues independently when possible, and elevate with clear diagnostic information when additional support is needed.
• Adapt to changing priorities and unfamiliar technologies while maintaining reliable daily operations.
• Keep customers and teammates informed during incidents and provide clear handoffs between shifts.
• Document procedures and train teammates so critical knowledge is shared and others can support the environment.

Required Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in IT field such as Computer Science, Management Information Systems, etc.
• Ten (10) or more years of experience in systems administration or closely related infrastructure operations.
• Strong Linux administration skills, including installation, configuration, services, permissions, patching, and log analysis.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues across servers, storage, networking, and application dependencies.
• Experience monitoring system health, remediating vulnerabilities, managing backups, and validating recovery procedures.
• Experience supporting at least one relational database platform, such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL, including health checks, backup and recovery, and operational troubleshooting.
• Ability to document technical procedures, communicate clearly with technical and nontechnical users, and work independently within a coordinated support team.
• Willingness and ability to work the assigned shift schedule and conduct regular onsite weekend health checks.

Desired Education and Experience

• A commute of less than 30 minutes from the worksite to support recurring onsite weekend checks.
• Experience supporting Department of Defense customers or mission systems that operate around the clock.
• Experience with cloud-native containerized application environments (Kubernetes / etc.).
• Experience with Elasticsearch sustainment including upgrades and failover.
• Experience scripting to automate routine Linux administration.
• Relevant technical education, military training, or industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+.
