Norton Healthcare, Inc. seeks a Sr. Surgical Technician to support the intra-operative care team. The role focuses on preparing and handling instrumentation and assisting the surgeon during procedures, with care adapted to neonates through geriatrics.

The technician must apply aseptic technique, medical terminology, and be able to respond quickly in emergencies, coordinating with team to ensure patient safety throughout surgery.

• Aseptic technique knowledge is required for intra-operative care.
• Medical terminology knowledge is used in patient interactions and procedures.
• Diploma or three years of surgical tech experience or completion of a Surgical Tech Apprentice Program.
• Certification options include CST, CSA, TS-C, CORST, or CSFA.

Responsibilities

The Sr. Surgical Technician assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period. The major focus for the position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment and assisting the surgeon during the surgical procedure. This individual administers care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served (neonate through geriatric). The Sr. Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable of specific procedures or specialties, effectively prioritize, and effectively plan and problem solve due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures. This individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations. The Sr. Surgical Technician must also have basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system and aseptic technique, and apply this knowledge in all patient and family interactions.

Qualifications

Required

• Three years as a Surgical Technician


• Diploma OR three years of surgical tech experience OR successful completion of a Surgical Tech Apprentice Program


• One of: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C), Certified Operating Room and Surgical Technician (CORST), or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).

Desired:

• Three years in an operating room setting
