Job description

Job Summary

The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for providing outstanding customer service to both the assigned physician and patients. The individual in this position will perform a broad spectrum of duties related to the effective and efficient scheduling of patients for outpatient visits and procedures. This includes maintaining precise interactions with nurses, physicians, vendors, and any other departments or functions involved in the delivery of patient care services. This role communicates with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure the availability of facilities and staff. The individual in this position will function as the liaison between the patient and the providers for all non-clinical issues, including scheduling procedures in both the minor procedure room and operating rooms, communicating pre-procedure instructions and appointment confirmations, and insurance verifications and/or pre-authorizations as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Schedule surgery cases, procedures, and outpatient visits in different settings.
• Determine if there is any insurance pre-authorization needed, and mail information packets to patients as necessary.
• Preauthorize procedures and surgeries. Obtain referrals and authorizations as necessary for all clinic patient encounters, procedures, and surgeries.This will require interactions with insurance companies and a working knowledge of various types of insurance along with CPT and Dx coding.
• Coordinate the care of patients with other multidisciplinary teams from the time the patient decides to have surgery up to the day of surgery.
• Work with physicians and their team to ensure their patients are ready for surgery.
• Submit authorization revisions as needed within designated timeframes.
• Train surgery schedulers/preauthorization specialists.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Anticipated Pay Range

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $51,360 to $61,632.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
