Job summary

Southeast Missouri Residential Services, a State of Missouri facility, seeks a Senior Support Care Assistant to provide one‑to‑one care for consumers. You will lead a small team, coordinate activities, and ensure safety and documentation while supporting clients with disabilities or illnesses.

The role requires background in care, ability to perform first aid, and willingness to obtain Medication Aide certification. Competitive benefits are offered by the State of Missouri.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older with at least 1 year of work experience.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing, first aid and emergency treatments.
  • Able to perform first aid and emergency procedures as instructed.
  • Ability to pass Level One Medication Aide certification within 1 month.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of Support Care Assistants to help clients develop self‑care and social skills.
  • Assist in individual or group activities including physical and educational therapies.
  • Supervise in the supervisor’s absence and provide counseling to staff.
  • Observe and report changes in clients' condition and behavior to the team.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, therapeutic environment and manage records.

Southeast Missouri Residential Services is a State of Missouri facility located at 112 Plaza Drive, Sikeston, MO. We are professional, agile and innovative. Shift available 7:00AM-7:00PM. ALTERNATING WEEKENDS OFF.

We're looking for a Senior Support Care Assistant to join our team of nurses who help provide one-on‑one care for our consumers. A successful candidate has previous experience working with the developmentally disabled, a strong work ethic and an active interest in helping to care for our consumers.   • Serving as a lead worker for a small number of Support Care Assistants in developing client skills related to self‑help, play, education, muscular development, and socialization.
  • Participating in implementing and conducting planned sessions of individual or group treatment activities in physical therapy, activity therapy, education, vocational rehabilitation, and related areas on a ward or in a cottage.
  • Scheduling/Supervising as required in the absence of the Supervising Support Care Assistant.
  • Providing direction and assistance through counseling sessions with staff.
  • Observing, reporting, and recording changes in the physical condition, behavioral response, and emotional status of clients.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for client care and treatment activities.
  • Administering oral, rectal, vaginal, optic, ophthalmic, nasal, topical, and insulin injection medications, under professional supervision, and after certification by facility officials.
  • Preparing and maintaining records and reports; circulating and implementing directives.
  • Performing moderately complex duties without detailed instruction; Performs other related work as assigned.
  • Reporting to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Working overtime as needed to retain adequate staffing.
  • Requires heavy lifting up to 50 pounds and the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years old. One or more years of work experience or self‑employment.
  • Possess adequate vision to read written material.
  • Possess adequate hearing.
  • Knowledge of the general care and treatment of clients, including basic nursing, first aid and emergency treatments. Ability to work with clients with physical or mental illness, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or the geriatric populations. Ability to perform first aid and emergency treatments as instructed.
  • Knowledge of elementary behavior medication techniques, medical terminology, and drug classifications. Ability to prepare and maintain records, charts and reports.
  • Must be able to successfully pass Level One Medication Aide certification within one (1) month of assignment, or longer if training by facility is not made available during that time.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and as necessary, drive during the day or night in rural, highway or metro conditions to transport individuals to a variety of locations for appointment, employment, leisure or vacations.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience (substitutions may be allowed).
