Job summary

Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital in St. Louis, MO is seeking a Senior Support Care Assistant to provide direct care for children and adolescents with mental illness.

You will support daily living activities, monitor health, and help maintain safety. The role involves assisting with vital signs, mobility, medication under supervision, crisis intervention, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience in direct care and pediatric settings is preferred.
• Ability to lead and work within a team while providing compassionate care.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with activities of daily living.
• Assist in checking vital signs and height/weight as assigned.
• Collect and maintain records of fluid intake and output.
• Report on the condition of the individuals.
• Participate in rehabilitation, ambulation and transfers.
• May be accountable for preparing, administering and charting medication under the direction of a professional nurse.
• Transport individuals in state vehicles to appointments and activities.
• Assist with staff scheduling as needed.
• Report complaints of clients and staff or other incidents to the supervisor.
• Able to lift 45lbs vertically from floor to shoulder height.
• Run, walk or jog a distance of 400 yards.
• Pull 45lbs at least 20 feet.
• Kneel on floor to perform CPR.
• Implement crisis intervention techniques and emergency treatment procedures.
• Demonstrate strong leadership and team building abilities.
• One or more years of work experience or self-employment.
• Possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Senior Support Care Assistant Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital

Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental illness. We are looking for a positive and energetic Senior Support Care Assistant who has an interest in helping children with mental illness maximize their potential.

Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital uses the Sanctuary Model to guide our interactions with our teammates and the care we provide to our consumers in order to promote healing, safety, and nonviolence. This is accomplished by following the Foundation of Sanctuary – The Four Pillars of (1) Trauma Theory, (2) Seven Commitments, (3) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotion, Loss, and Future), (4) Sanctuary Tool Kit.

• This is a second-level direct care position which may function as a lead worker
