Job summary

Eversource Energy in Torrington, CT, seeks a Senior Supervisor to lead construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment. You will analyze data to define maintenance needs and promote a safety-first culture while motivating staff to deliver excellent customer service.

At the Senior Supervisor level, you will act as a local technical lead, coach other supervisors, allocate resources, and represent the manager in meetings with departments, customers, and the community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent related experience is required.
• Eight to ten years of related experience with prior supervisory experience required; substation operation/maintenance preferred.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license; CDL preferred.

• Supervises crews in construction and maintenance activities for T&D substations.
• Coordinates maintenance and construction of assets by arranging staffing, materials and equipment with other sections.
• Responsible for the reliability and condition of substation assets.
• Analyzes maintenance data and inputs into the company database.
• Sets clear performance expectations and conducts reviews.
• Manages grievances and ensures proper application of local union contracts.
• Directs safety awareness and compliance initiatives within the group.
• Maintains a customer-first attitude and collaborates to resolve issues.

Role and Scope of Position:

Provides leadership for the construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment. Analyzes historical inspection, maintenance, test and operational data to establish appropriate maintenance requirements for equipment. Actively promotes and enforces a safety-first work environment and positive safety culture. Engages and motivates employees to deliver the best possible customer experience.

At the Senior Supervisor level, in addition to the duties listed above, responsibilities include:

• Serves as the local technical lead or coach for other supervisors
• Develops and coaches other supervisors in various aspects of their role (i.e. – managing crew performance, daily job briefings and work site visits, safety, O&M/Capital accounting, etc.)
• Authorizes re-allocation of resources in situations where conflicting priorities exist (i.e. – greater than expected field employee absence, re-configures crews)
• Drives innovation and change in business processes
• Leads area work center activities during manager absence
• Represents manager at department, customer, and community meetings

Essential Functions:

• Supervises crews in construction and maintenance activities for T&D substations.
• Coordinates maintenance and construction of assigned assets by making arrangements for staffing, materials and equipment with other sections such as Maintenance, Field Communications/Engineering, Control Centers and contractors according to prescribed schedules and methods
• Responsible for the reliability and condition of substation assets
• Analysis of maintenance data and its accurate input directly into company database
• Sets clear expectations and provides ongoing feedback to employees regarding their performance. Effectively addresses performance issues. Conducts comprehensive performance reviews (per applicable bargaining unit contract).
• Responsible for the proper application of local union contracts and agreements. Works with managers and employees to resolve grievances and concerns in a timely and complete manner.
• Directs safety awareness and compliance initiatives within the group, and monitors safety performance. Champions efforts to achieve world-class excellence regarding safe work practices and procedures, and safety performance.
• Demonstrates and role models a customer-first attitude. Seeks to quickly resolve customer issues by collaborating with employees and other departments.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

• Thorough knowledge of applicable work practices and procedures and safety requirements
• Detailed knowledge of power system maintenance and operations

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent related experience is required.

Experience:

• Senior Supervisor: Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of related experience is required.
• Previous supervisory experience is required, experience in substation operation and maintenance is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to:
• Serve as the local technical lead or coach for other supervisors
• Develop and coach others
• Lead area work center activities during manager absence
• Professionally represent Eversource in Manager’s absence at department, customer, and community meetings.

Licenses & Certifications:

• Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; valid CDL preferred.

Working Conditions:

• Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
• Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
