Job summary

Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) announces an immediate opening for a full-time Supervising Attorney for the Tenant Right to Counsel Project (TRCP) in the Montgomery County office in Rockville, MD. The Supervising Attorney will plan the unit's work, assign tasks, hire and supervise staff, and carry a case load.

The role includes leadership, outreach, and advocacy in landlord-tenant matters. The position requires a Maryland bar admission, a JD, and at least five years of relevant experience, with strong

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Admitted to practice in Maryland or eligibility for admission.
• Five+ years of experience in landlord-tenant, housing, and consumer law.
• Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to supervise staff and manage a docket with competing priorities.
• Experience with civil legal services or public-interest law is a plus.
• Willingness to travel within Maryland as needed.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise the unit's work in coordination with the chief.
• Identify systemic issues and develop strategy to address them.
• Provide leadership and supervision to staff and legal teams.
• Monitor case handling to ensure quality representation.
• Evaluate staff performance and provide feedback.
• Foster professional development and co-counseling of cases.
• Ensure compliance with timekeeping and grant reporting.
• Engage in outreach and community education.
• Represent clients in Montgomery County courts and hearings.
