Job summary

Maryland Legal Aid seeks an experienced Supervising Attorney for the Tenant Right to Counsel Project (TRCP) in the Midwestern Maryland office in Frederick, MD. The role combines leadership responsibilities with direct legal representation and oversight of staff, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work to ensure high-quality legal services for tenants.

The ideal candidate will have MD admission or eligibility, a JD, and substantial supervisory and litigation experience in housing law,

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school.
• Two+ years of supervisory/leadership experience preferred; ability to lead a team of lawyers and staff.
• Five+ years of practicing attorney experience with litigation in housing/tenant-related areas is preferred.
• Knowledge of civil procedure, evidence, and research tools (Westlaw) helpful.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise unit work, assign cases, and oversee staff performance.
• Support hiring, grant reporting, and data collection for the unit.
• Lead client intake and outreach to ensure access to counsel for tenants.
• Represent clients in state courts and coordinate with other offices as needed.
