Job summary

Kimmel & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Superintendent to lead field operations on a newly awarded, large-scale industrial campus in the greater Lynchburg, Virginia area.

The Senior Superintendent directs on-site work in line with the project schedule and the company’s safety and quality standards, serving as the primary on-site leader and liaison between the project team, subcontractors, and the client.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of experience in commercial or industrial construction.
• Four-year degree in construction, engineering, or business strongly preferred (additional experience accepted in lieu of a degree).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Project), Procore, Primavera P6, Adobe, and Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

• Run the company safety program for all subcontractors; ensure incidents are reported and investigated.
• Lead all on-site safety and maintain a safe jobsite.
• Maintain quality standards across the project.
• Keep a daily log of activities and site conditions; manage punch lists and closeout.
• Collaborate with the project manager to build the schedule and ensure correct methods and sequence.
• Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and build community relationships for business opportunities.
• Keep complete daily records of work orders and tickets; understand subcontractor scopes to avoid unnecessary change orders.
• Organize the site team, set up temporary facilities and utilities, and identify long-lead items for expediting.
• Collaborate with project management and site operations within a large multi-tier site organization.

Our client is a top national general contractor with offices across the country. Its Industrial group builds new facilities, renovations, expansions, and fit-outs for distribution centers, warehouses, manufacturing, aviation, automotive, mission critical, advanced manufacturing, central utility plants, and other complex industrial facilities nationwide.

About the Position

Our client is seeking a Senior Superintendent to lead field operations on a newly awarded, large-scale industrial campus in the greater Lynchburg, Virginia area. The Senior Superintendent directs the work on site in line with the project schedule and the company’s safety and quality standards. This person serves as the primary on-site leader and the liaison between the project team, subcontractors, and the client.

Project Overview:

• Newly awarded project supporting a growing industrial market in southern Virginia
• Large-scale, multi-year build with an established site team of multiple superintendents, assistant superintendents, project managers, and APMs
• Site setup and mobilization underway now, with groundbreaking imminent
• Room to grow within an industrial group that also covers advanced manufacturing, mission critical, energy, power generation, and heavy civil work

Key Responsibilities:

• Run the company safety program for all subcontractors. Make sure incidents are promptly reported and investigated, and assist with inspections by outside agencies.
• Lead all on-site safety and keep the jobsite safe for everyone on it.
• Maintain quality standards across every part of the project.
• Keep a daily log of activities and site conditions, and manage the punch list and closeout through owner and architect acceptance.
• Work with the project manager to build the schedule, make sure work is installed in the right methods and sequence, and follow through on schedule commitments.
• Maintain strong, fair relationships with subcontractors, and build community relationships that create business opportunities.
• Keep complete, accurate daily records of work orders and tickets. Understand each subcontractor’s scope to avoid unnecessary change orders, and catch and solve problems early.
• Organize the site team, set up temporary facilities and utilities, and identify long-lead items that need to be expedited.
• Collaborate with project management and site operations within a large, multi-tiered site organization.

Requirements

• 8-10 years of experience in commercial or industrial construction, including time with a commercial general contractor.
• Previous experience as a superintendent or project lead preferred.
• Mastery of building processes and best practices on complex industrial facilities.
• Four-year degree in construction, engineering, or business strongly preferred. Additional experience is accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Project), Procore, Primavera P6, Adobe, and Bluebeam.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• Tenant renovation, service work, occupied-space, weekend, and fast-paced project experience a plus.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage priorities across a large site team.
