Job description

Position Overview

A well-established commercial General Contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Superintendent to join its Austin, TX team. This is a senior-level field leadership position responsible for overseeing large and complex commercial construction projects while managing project financial performance, forecasting, field operations, and a medium-sized team.

Candidates must have previous experience managing large-scale healthcare and/or hospitality construction projects, along with demonstrated experience handling project financials, forecasting, and leading a medium-sized field team. These qualifications are mandatory.

The ideal candidate is a proven field leader who can operate at both the strategic and day-to-day levels — managing overall project execution while developing and holding the field team accountable for schedule, quality, safety, and financial performance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead overall field operations for large-scale commercial construction projects from mobilization through completion and closeout.
  • Manage and mentor a medium-sized team of Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, and other field personnel.
  • Establish clear expectations for project execution, accountability, quality, safety, and schedule performance.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, sequencing plans, manpower plans, and site logistics strategies.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, architects, engineers, owners, and internal project teams.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify schedule risks, manpower requirements, procurement issues, and potential delays.
  • Participate in project financial management, including forecasting, cost tracking, labor projections, and identifying potential cost impacts.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and leadership to review financial performance and develop corrective strategies when necessary.
  • Conduct regular jobsite meetings and provide leadership with accurate updates on project progress, schedule, manpower, quality, safety, and financial performance.
  • Review construction documents, specifications, schedules, and shop drawings to identify constructability issues and coordination conflicts.
  • Maintain high standards for jobsite safety, quality control, housekeeping, and documentation.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance and ensure work is completed in accordance with contract documents, schedule requirements, and quality standards.
  • Lead project turnover, commissioning, punch list, and closeout activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of commercial construction field experience with progressive Superintendent responsibilities.
  • MANDATORY: Previous experience leading large-scale healthcare construction projects.
  • MANDATORY: Previous experience leading large-scale hospitality construction projects.
  • MANDATORY: Demonstrated experience managing project financials, forecasting, and cost performance.
  • MANDATORY: Previous experience leading and managing a medium-sized field team.
  • Proven ability to lead complex commercial projects from mobilization through completion.
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, sequencing, logistics, quality control, and safety.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction means, methods, materials, and project coordination.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with Project Managers, owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal leadership.
  • Proficiency with construction scheduling and project management software preferred.
  • Ability to work onsite in the Austin, TX market.

This position goes beyond traditional field supervision. The Senior Superintendent will be expected to understand the financial and operational performance of the project, not simply manage daily field activities.

The successful candidate will have experience:

  • Reviewing project financials and cost performance.
  • Developing and maintaining accurate forecasts.
  • Tracking labor and manpower projections.
  • Identifying potential cost and schedule impacts before they become issues.
  • Partnering with Project Managers and leadership on financial and operational strategy.
  • Managing and developing a medium-sized field team.
  • Establishing accountability and maintaining high execution standards across the project team.
Project Experience

Required project backgrounds:

  • Healthcare — Large-Scale Projects | Hospitality — Large-Scale Projects
  • Candidates with additional experience in other complex commercial sectors are welcome, but the ability to demonstrate successful leadership on large healthcare and hospitality projects is required.
Why Join?
  • Senior-level leadership opportunity with an established commercial General Contractor.
  • Opportunity to lead large, complex projects in the Austin market.
  • Significant responsibility for field operations, team leadership, and project performance.
  • Collaborative environment with strong Project Management and preconstruction support.
  • Long-term opportunity for career growth and advancement.
NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • 2. Large-scale hospitality construction experience
  • 3. Experience managing project financials and forecasting
  • 4. Experience leading a medium-sized field team
