Job summary

K&A Power Group– is seeking a Principal Protection & Controls Engineer to join K&A Engineering in New York. The role focuses on leading protection design for capital projects, reviewing relay schemes, and coordinating area protection.

You will support SCADA, HMI, and IED mapping while ensuring proper as-built documentation and adherence to TM standards. The ideal candidate holds a BSEE with 15+ years in relay/protection settings, PE license, and proficiency in MicroStation/AutoCAD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 15+ years of relay/protection settings engineering experience.
• Proficient with MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Substation design experience including general arrangement and cabling.

Responsibilities

• Lead overall protection design for capital projects per Avangrid TM standards.
• Review and incorporate existing protection schemes and anti-islanding settings.
• Coordinate relay settings and generate area coordination input.
• Review contractor relay settings, GOES, and operational descriptions.
• Provide design support during implementation, testing, and commissioning.
• Lead automation and SCADA integration design for projects.
• Review HMI screens, protection settings, and IED maps.
• Ensure as-built documentation is filed in plant records.
