Job summary
New York State Electric & Gas is seeking an experienced Protection Engineer to lead the protection and control scope for substation projects in New York. You will interface with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to develop and review protection diagrams, BOMs, and system integration plans.
The role emphasizes ensuring compliance with national and local codes while managing multiple projects in an in-office environment five days a week.
Qualifications
- Theoretical Engineering knowledge for planning, design and analysis.
- Experience in protection engineering and system protection.
- Ability to document and interpret engineering work.
Responsibilities
- Guide design, estimating, and analysis of protection systems for transmission and substations.
- Coordinate with stakeholders; manage settings, networking, and automation configs.
- Review external design for compliance with standards (IEC, IEEE, NERC etc.).
- Develop protection BOMs and assist procurement; ensure safety and reliability.
