Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Substation P&C Engineer to lead protection and control design for multi‑site substations in the eastern U.S. The role offers office‑based or hybrid work with remote flexibility for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities include engineering guidance, complex diagrams, relay philosophy and automation design, and coordination with owners and regulators. The position emphasizes safety, QA/QC, and leadership of junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–7 years’ experience in protection and control or electrical design for substations.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Proficient in protection and control engineering and related design/build processes.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
• Knowledge of electrical laws, codes and compliance.
• Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret plans.
• Project management experience on small–to–mid projects.
• Ability to supervise field personnel and ensure safety.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and MicroStation; spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Define data collection methods for protection and control requirements.
• Review third‑party substation design documents and plans.
• Create one‑line and three‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams.
• Incorporate future‑ready techniques into relaying philosophies and automation.
• Support with relay and metering equipment selection and field considerations.
• Verify site characteristics and provide input on design, testing, and sequencing.
• Develop calculations for DC load, battery sizing, CT/VT sizing, relay settings.
• Prepare plans, specs, cost estimates, and safety/phase plans.
• Work with cross‑functional teams on multiple projects.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations communicating design approaches.
• Guide entry‑level engineers.
• Assist in field investigations and risk mitigation actions.
• Prepare HASPs.
• Interact with clients, utilities, regulators.
