Position Overview

Mesa seeks a senior-level substation design engineer with at least 15 years of recent, progressively responsible experience in substation design and/or QA/QC. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Developing single lines, elementaries, panel elevations, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and cable schedules using Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
• Performing electrical P&C design for substations ranging from 4kV to 500kV.
• Collaborating within project teams with engineers and designers involved in high and extra-high voltage substations.
• Interpreting and incorporating vendor information into design deliverables.
• Applying client’s substation design standards appropriately.
• Maintaining a high-level understanding of SCE and industry standards.
• Managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Ideal Candidate Responsibilities

• Perform independent quality checks on P&C drawings and physical design drawings as needed, working with QA/QC teams.
• Coach and mentor Design Engineers, providing constructive feedback on design errors.
• Prepare and verify calculations using engineering formulas or specialized software.
• Manage personal and team task assignments to ensure scope, schedule, and budget adherence.
• Monitor project milestones and schedules to ensure timely completion.
• Review and coordinate the technical and deliverable quality of project documents.
• Communicate effectively with team members and clients both verbally and in writing.
• Build strong relationships with team members and clients through good interpersonal skills.
• Ensure the technical adequacy of all deliverables.
• Work under supervision to complete assignments on schedule and within budget.

Supervision of less experienced engineers or technical support personnel is exercised on an as-needed basis and is not a continuous component at this level.

Salary Range

$95,680 - $170,560

The actual compensation will depend on education, experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location, and departmental resources.
