Job summary

Electric Power Systems, Inc. is seeking a motivated Substation Design Engineer to join our team in Palmer or Juneau, AK, or Olympia, WA. You will design and review substation layouts, perform engineering studies, and develop specifications for procurement and construction.

The role requires a BSEE (ABET accredited) and 7+ years of substation design experience, with familiarity in IEEE, NESC, NEC codes. Strong collaboration skills and a PE license are a plus, with relocation support if applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required (ABET accredited).
• 7+ years of experience in substation design or related electrical engineering.
• Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, NEC codes.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• PE license is a plus (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Designing and reviewing substation layouts, plan and profiles, one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, grounding layouts, and protective device drawings.
• Performing engineering studies: short-circuit, grounding, voltage drop, and equipment rating.
• Developing technical specifications for procurement and construction.
• Coordinating with clients, vendors, and internal teams to manage design deliverables.
• Conducting field inspections and supporting troubleshooting efforts.
• Tracking project status, responding to client feedback, and ensuring design accuracy.

We’re looking for a motivated Substation Design Engineer to join our team in either Palmer, Alaska, or Juneau, Alaska, or Olympia, Washington. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative environment on critical energy infrastructure projects across North America and the Pacific.
