Job summary

Luzco Technologies, LLC. is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to design and deliver high-voltage substation projects regionally. You will lead development of physical and electrical designs with experienced engineers and designers, guiding projects from concept through construction.

The role emphasizes mentoring, collaboration with utility clients, and contributing to meaningful infrastructure while supporting design reviews and quality initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience supporting utility substation design.
• Working knowledge of substation design principles.
• Ability to develop and review drawings, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
• Understanding of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, project managers, clients, and field personnel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of new and upgraded high-voltage substations (32.4kV–500kV).
• Develop physical and electrical deliverables (one-line diagrams, yard layouts, cable plans, relay panel arrangements, BOM).
• Prepare engineering and construction documents for expansion, replacement, modernization, and protection projects.
• Perform calculations: voltage drop, CT burden/saturation, lighting, short circuit.
• Develop/modify technical specs for major substation equipment (transformers, breakers, control houses).
• Collaborate with PMs, designers, clients, and field personnel for high-quality solutions.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Support engineering activities during construction, testing, commissioning.
• Participate in design reviews and quality checks for accuracy and constructability.
• Travel up to 20–25% as needed.

The Role

As a Senior Substation Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and delivering high-voltage substation projects that help keep power flowing to communities across the region. Working alongside a team of experienced engineers and designers, you'll lead the development of physical and electrical designs, solve complex technical challenges, and support projects from concept through construction.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys both hands‑on design work and mentoring others. You'll have the opportunity to influence project outcomes, collaborate with utility clients, and help develop the next generation of engineers while contributing to meaningful infrastructure projects. The role will also support design reviews and quality initiatives to ensure project deliverables meet client expectations and industry standards

What Your Day Will Look Like

• Lead the design of new and upgraded high-voltage substations ranging from 32.4kV to 500kV.
• Develop physical and electrical engineering deliverables, including one-line diagrams, yard layouts, conduit and cable plans, relay panel arrangements, and bills of material.
• Prepare engineering and construction documents for substation expansion, replacement, modernization, and protection projects.
• Perform engineering calculations including voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, lighting, and short circuit calculations.
• Develop and modify technical specifications for major substation equipment such as transformers, breakers, and control houses.
• Collaborate with project managers, designers, clients, and field personnel to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and designers.
• Support engineering activities during construction, testing, and commissioning.
• Participate in design reviews and quality checks to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.

Requirements
