Job summary

Luzco Technologies LLC is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to lead HV substation design and engineering deliverables. You will work with a team of engineers and designers to drive projects from concept through construction, mentoring others along the way.

You’ll develop electrical and physical designs, review calculations, and collaborate with utility clients to meet project requirements, timelines, and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Experience designing utility substations or related projects.
  • Ability to develop and review drawings, calculations and specifications.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA standards.
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design of high-voltage substations ranging from 32.4kV to 500kV.
  • Develop deliverables: one-line diagrams, yard layouts, conduit and cable plans.
  • Prepare engineering documents for expansion, replacement, modernization and protection.
  • Perform calculations including voltage drop, short circuit and related analyses.
  • Provide mentorship and collaborate with project managers, clients and field personnel.
  • Travel up to 20–25% as needed to support projects.

The Role

As a Senior Substation Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and delivering high-voltage substation projects that help keep power flowing to communities across the region. Working alongside a team of experienced engineers and designers, you'll lead the development of physical and electrical designs, solve complex technical challenges, and support projects from concept through construction. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys both hands-on design work and mentoring others. You'll have the opportunity to influence project outcomes, collaborate with utility clients, and help develop the next generation of engineers while contributing to meaningful infrastructure projects. The role will also support design reviews and quality initiatives to ensure project deliverables meet client expectations and industry standards.

What Your Day Will Look Like
  • Lead the design of new and upgraded high-voltage substations ranging from 32.4kV to 500kV.
  • Develop physical and electrical engineering deliverables, including one-line diagrams, yard layouts, conduit and cable plans, relay panel arrangements, and bills of material.
  • Prepare engineering and construction documents for substation expansion, replacement, modernization, and protection projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations including voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, lighting, and short circuit calculations.
  • Develop and modify technical specifications for major substation equipment such as transformers, breakers, and control houses.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, clients, and field personnel to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and designers.
  • Support engineering activities during construction, testing, and commissioning.
  • Participate in design reviews and quality checks to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Travel up to 20% as needed to support projects and client needs.
Requirements

Essentials To Succeed
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Experience supporting the design of utility substation projects.
  • Working knowledge of substation physical and/or electrical design principles.
