Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Substation Designer to deliver Protection & Control and Physical Design packages for electrical utility, industrial, and data center substations. You will work with engineers, managers, clients, and contractors to develop detailed design packages from concept through construction support.

You will mentor junior designers, ensure design quality, and coordinate with civil, structural, and protection engineering disciplines to meet project requirements in a hybrid

Qualifications

• Associate degree required in engineering technology or related field.
• Minimum 12 years substation design experience.
• Experience in P&C and Physical Design for AIS and GIS substations.
• Experience with 12 kV through 500 kV projects.
• Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain complete P&C and panel wiring diagrams for utility and industrial substations.
• Prepare wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, relay panel arrangements and SCADA wiring drawings.
• Develop cable schedules and routing plans.
• Perform DC/AC distribution breaker and fuse sizing.
• Create station one-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Develop grounding plans, lightning protection and conduit layouts.
• Coordinate equipment locations and clearances.
• Assist in site walkdowns and constructability reviews.
• Coordinate design development across multiple disciplines and teams.
• Mentor junior designers and ensure design quality and standards compliance.
• Support QA/QC, proposals, and project planning activities.
