Root Edge, a high-growth electric utility solutions firm in Southern California, is seeking an Electrical Engineer IV, Substation Design to drive the design, analysis, and field execution for a portfolio of substations and microgrids.

This role blends engineering depth with hands-on utility operations, offering ownership of complex projects from concept through construction, client leadership, and ongoing operations support, plus opportunities for mentorship and career growth.

Qualifications

• BSEE with emphasis in power systems
• Active PE license
• 8+ years in the electric utility industry
• Expert-level knowledge of medium-voltage substations and distribution systems
• Expertise in power system analysis and protective device coordination
• Experience with ETAP or equivalent power system analysis platform
• Ability to estimate time/cost/labor from blueprints and proposals

Responsibilities

• Design and study complex power systems including substations and switching stations
• Lead technical analysis from concept to modeling and coordination studies
• Own project deliverables end to end: specifications, BOMs, cost estimates
• Engage in the field with walk-downs and site surveys, present designs
• Serve as client-facing project lead managing RFIs, schedules and tracking
• Maintain protection and relaying expertise and guide corrective action
• Keep the organization current on industry standards and codes
• Mentor junior engineers
