Job summary

Carter Support Services is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead day-to-day HV substation and switchyard construction efforts. You will supervise civil, structural, electrical, and control works, upholding safety, schedule, and budget expectations across projects.

The role requires travel to project sites, coordination with owner utilities, and strong QA/QC discipline. A bachelor’s degree in a related field and 7+ years’ experience are expected, with OSHA 30 preferred.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in construction management or field supervision for high-voltage substations.
• Experience with EPC or owner-side projects and NERC/FERC considerations.
• Knowledge of substation drawings and interpretations of specs.
• OSHA 30 certification or ability to obtain.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel/relocate near sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day construction operations for substation projects, including civil/foundations and equipment setting.
• Enforce safety plans, OSHA compliance, and job hazard analyses.
• Develop and drive construction schedule; manage critical path and constraints.
• Manage budgets, subcontractors, pay apps, and change orders.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and field crews; ensure quality and contract adherence.
• Coordinate outages and energization sequences with owner/utility teams.
• Lead QA/QC in the field; verify conformance to designs and codes.
• Provide constructability input to engineering; flag conflicts early.
• Oversee material receiving, laydown, storage; maintain field records and reports.
• Lead meetings; report safety, progress, cost, schedule, and risks.
