Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Substation Physical Designer for our Hailey, ID office to support the Power Delivery Substation Team on diverse transmission projects. You will provide technical design and CADD support, prepare detailed drawings, layouts, and BOMs using AutoCAD/MicroStation, and ensure compliance with IEEE, NEC, and project standards.

Travel may be required. This is a hands-on role requiring high attention to detail, strong drafting skills, and the ability to collaborate with

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• 9 years of relevant post-education experience in discipline with prior drafting and design support experience.
• Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, MicroStation, Inventor).
• Experience with utility transmission and distribution substation physical designs up to 500 kV.
• Familiarity with IEEE, NEC, NESC, and RUS standards.
• Well-defined knowledge of drafting and design support principles, practices, process, methods and techniques.
• Defined ability to make technical computations and calculations involving geometry and math concepts.

Responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and analyze data from the work site and drawings to support drafting and design activities for substation projects.
• Assist with drafting tasks for substation projects, including layouts, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Use 3D CAD software to prepare detailed substation drawings, layouts, BOMs, and grounding plans.
• Verify accuracy of calculations and interpretations of plans; escalate issues as needed.
• Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to execute project phases.
