Job summary

The Mannes School of Music at The New School seeks a Staff Pianist, Senior Student Assistant Specialist to accompany instrumental and vocal students in private lessons, masterclasses, juries, and performances. You will learn assigned music in advance and collaborate with peers to ensure accurate tempi and expressive nuance.

The ideal candidate is a current Mannes student (BM/MM/PDPL) with coursework in collaborative skills and deep knowledge of art songs, lieder, and chamber repertoire.

Qualifications

• Current student in the Mannes BM, MM, or PDPL degree programs.
• Prior coursework in collaborative skills, and/or equivalent experience.
• Extensive knowledge of collaborative piano performance practice with art songs, lieder, sonatas, concerti, and/or other vocal and instrumental solo repertoire.

Responsibilities

• Accompany instrumental and/or vocal students in private lessons, masterclasses, juries, classes, and/or other performance experiences.
• Learn assigned music prior to collaborating with fellow students and ensure correct tempi and dynamics.
• Exhibit professionalism in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and audience members.
• Respond to inquiries regarding private lessons, masterclasses, and performance experiences.
• Adhere to departmental guidelines regarding reporting hours, payroll deadlines, and other items.
