Job summary

Whitman College is seeking an Inclusive Excellence Senior Student Assistant in a part-time role. You will serve as a peer leader across Identity & Belonging units, onboard new student assistants, and foster an inclusive campus culture.

You will support division-wide events, co-facilitate workshops, and help coordinate cross-unit programming while maintaining student privacy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice across multiple identity areas.
• Working knowledge of LGBTQIA+ identities, racial/ethnic identities, faith/spiritual traditions, and disability service.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to mentor, support, and collaborate with peers.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines with professionalism.
• Familiarity with Google and/or Microsoft platforms and general office tools.
• Experience with social media content creation and design tools (e.g., Canva) preferred.
• Maintain confidentiality and student privacy.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a peer leader for Identity & Belonging Student Assistants across specialty areas.
• Assist onboarding of new Identity & Belonging Student Assistants with division policies and expectations.
• Model professionalism, cultural humility, and inclusive excellence in all interactions.
• Coordinate cross-unit communication to foster a cohesive divisional culture.
• Identify peer support needs and elevate concerns to supervisors.
• Coordinate large-scale division-wide events and initiatives (e.g., Welcome Week, Heritage Month).
• Co-facilitate identity dialogues and training sessions for student groups.
• Support cross-unit programming across LGBTQIA+ Services, 3SC, GAIC, RSL, Compliance and Title IX.
