K&A Power Group in Oakbrook IL or Pleasanton CA is seeking a Structural Substation Engineer to lead and execute design for high-voltage substations (12kV–500kV). You will collaborate with electrical, civil and project teams to ensure code compliance and constructability.

Requires a Civil or Structural Engineering degree, 5+ years substation experience, proficiency with PLS-CADD/POLE, STAAD, SAP2000 or RISA, and a PE license (IL preferred).

Qualificações

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s preferred.
• 5+ years structural engineering experience focused on substation design.
• Experience with structural steel design and concrete/foundation design.
• Proficient with analysis software: PLS-CADD/POLE, STAAD, SAP2000, RISA.
• Working knowledge of ASCE, AISC, ACI, NESC; CA seismic familiarity.
• PE license preferred (Illinois via comity acceptable).
• Experience with utility EPC partners and construction packages.
• Experience with renewable energy or grid modernization projects.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Structural Substation Engineer to join our team at K&A Power Group in Oakbrook IL or Pleasanton CA. • Lead and support structural design efforts for high - voltage electrical substations (typically 12kV – 500kV).
• Perform structural steel design, including bus support structures, equipment stands, platforms, and connection details.
• Develop concrete foundation designs for transformers, breakers, control buildings, steel structures, and other substation components.
• Conduct structural analysis using industry-standard software and methodologies.
• Prepare and review detailed design documents, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Collaborate with electrical, civil, and project management teams to ensure design compliance, constructability, and project timelines.
• Support site evaluations, structural assessments, and modification recommendations for existing substations.
• Maintain adherence to applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASCE, ACI, AISC, NESC, IEEE).
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship when applicable.

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred but not required).
• 5+ years of structural engineering experience, with a focus on substation design.
• Demonstrated experience with:
  • Structural steel design
  • Concrete/foundation design
  • Analysis software (e.g., PLS-CADD/POLE, STAAD, SAP2000, RISA, or similar)
• Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, NESC).
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects.
• Professional Engineer (SE) license—Illinois preferred (or ability to obtain via comity).
• Experience interacting with utility clients or EPC partners.
• Familiarity with seismic design requirements in California.
• Experience developing construction packages and IFC drawings.
• Prior involvement in renewable energy or grid modernization projects.

Pay Range $120,000-180,000/year
