Job summary

Thornton Tomasetti in Portland, OR seeks a Senior Project Engineer to tackle complex structural challenges, advance technical leadership, and drive project success. You’ll evaluate innovative concepts, lead deliverables, and mentor engineers while collaborating with architects, contractors, and clients.

This role requires a Civil/Structural/Architectural Eng degree, PE/SE licensure, and 6+ years of experience in a consulting setting.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of structural engineering experience, ideally within a consulting environment.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong background in analytical modeling, detailing, and advanced engineering concepts (steel, concrete, seismic, tall buildings, specialty structures, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for independent evaluation and application of advanced engineering concepts to complex structural problems.
  • Develop deliverables that clearly communicate technical concepts to clients.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, consultants, and internal experts to broaden influence across the industry.
  • Contribute to proposals and represent TT’s technical excellence with clients.
  • Engage in internal collaboration initiatives across sustainability, resilience, forensics, renewal, and protective design.
  • Develop leadership by linking structural decisions to outcomes, innovation, and long‑term client value.
  • Mentor earlier‑career engineers to elevate team performance.

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure.
  • 6+ years of structural engineering experience, ideally within a consulting environment.
  • Strong background in analytical modeling, detailing, and advanced engineering concepts (steel, concrete, seismic, tall buildings, specialty structures, etc.).
