Job summary

KS Engineers, P.C. seeks a Senior Structural Inspector to perform field inspections of structural and bridge construction and rehabilitation work across New York projects.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and 5+ years of inspection experience, with the ability to read drawings and communicate effectively with project teams. The candidate will inspect structural steel, concrete, welding, and related activities, coordinate with engineers and contractors, and work outdoors

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related.
• 5+ years of structural/bridge construction inspection experience.
• Experience with bridge rehabilitation, structural steel, or transportation infrastructure projects.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of structural and bridge construction/rehabilitation work.
• Inspect structural steel, concrete, reinforcing steel, welding, bolting, and related construction activities.
• Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and approved materials.
• Monitor contractor operations for compliance with NYCDOT requirements.
• Document daily activities, quantities, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
• Prepare daily inspection reports and photographic documentation.
• Coordinate with the Resident Engineer, Project Manager, contractors, and other inspectors.
• Identify construction issues and communicate deficiencies to the project team.
• Perform field measurements and verify completed work.
• Work safely around active roadways, bridges, elevated structures, and construction equipment.

Technical Responsibilities:

• Perform field inspections of structural and bridge construction/rehabilitation work.
• Inspect structural steel, concrete, reinforcing steel, welding, bolting, and related construction activities.
• Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and approved materials.

Education and Professional Licenses/Registrations:

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
• Knowledge of structural steel inspection, concrete inspection, welding, and high-strength bolting.
• Ability to work independently in the field and maintain accurate inspection records.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work outdoors and at heights.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical ability to perform field inspections
• The ability to perform inspections without undue fear of heights
• Able to use fall protection
• Climbing, reaching, bending, kneeling, reaching above head
• Good sense of balance
• OSHA10 or OSHA30 preferred
