Role Summary
The Senior Structural Engineering Manager will complete and oversee activities within the Structural Engineering Department. This position will also provide direct support to the Director of Structural Engineering and assistance to other structural engineers within the department. Responsibilities include document review, collaboration with project teams, attending meetings, conducting field observations or inspections, and investigating non-compliant conditions. All activities support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core
- Conduct detailed constructability reviews and participate in page-turn review meetings.
- Review shop drawing submittals and related technical information for accuracy and adherence.
- Prepare for and attend trade partner pre-installation meetings, possibly leading discussions for the structural scope.
- Identify, document, and recommend solutions to construction quality issues.
- Communicate project quality status and issues at review meetings.
- Identify non-compliant conditions and trends needing attention using advanced quality recognition skills.
- Create technical documentation based on industry standards (e.g., white papers).
- Provide internal training for structural scopes for JE Dunn project teams.
- Suggest methods to improve structural efficiency and execution within parameters acceptable to the design team.
- Collaborate with project teams for communication with design teams on structural issues, with the Structural Engineer of Record maintaining responsibility for structural design and changes.
- Conduct quality walks at job sites and manufacturing facilities for structural scopes.
- Prepare structural drawings and calculations for Design Phase Services projects.
- Collaborate with trade partners on structural issues and solutions.

In addition, this position will:
- Review structural analysis performed by engineers within the department, sharing and implementing suggestions.
- Manage the preparation of drawings and specifications to comply with codes and client expectations.
- Interact with clients to develop structural solutions, including alternatives.
- Participate in proposal preparation and contract reviews.
- Develop project work plans focusing on efficiency and priorities.
- Develop structural engineering resources and tools to improve efficiency and results.
- Support structural issues encountered on projects through white papers and technical support.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and timely.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office.
- Advanced proficiency in RISA or similar structural analysis software.
- Intermediate formal presentation skills.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, codes, and technical data.
- Intermediate knowledge of material and field testing for QA processes.
- Advanced knowledge of construction assemblies and trades.
- Proficiency in basic construction and quality software tools.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate internally and externally.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering or related field (Required).
- Equivalent relevant experience considered in lieu of degree.
Experience
- 10+ years of construction or structural engineering experience (Required).
- Cross-functional knowledge of disciplines like Architectural, Structural, MEP, and trades.
Working Environment
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours and travel overnight if needed.
- Normal office environment with exposure to extreme conditions at times.
- Frequent activities include standing, walking, sitting, viewing screens; occasional bending and reaching.
