A leading engineering firm is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to lead and support power substation projects. The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of experience in design and engineering within the power and utility industry. Responsibilities include developing structural drawings and collaborating on projects regionally. A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and a Professional Engineer license are required. Senior Structural Engineer – Substation (Power Group)

Locations: St. Louis, MO; Roanoke, VA; Charlotte, NC; Pittsburgh, PA; Phoenix, AZ; Chicago, IL; Marlton, NJ.

What You Will Do

• Lead or support utility and power substation projects ranging from 34.5 kV to 500 kV.
• Develop substation structural steel and foundation drawings and calculations for new and existing substations.
• Prepare specifications for substation structural materials.
• Collaborate internally to pursue power substation projects regionally and nationally, increasing GFT presence.
• Develop and nurture client relationships, working across multiple disciplines.
• Participate actively in proposal bids, reports, and presentations.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (minimum).
• Professional Engineer license or path to licensure.
• 8+ years progressive experience in design, engineering, and project management in the power and utility industry.
• Experience in the consulting engineering profession.
• Proficiency with project management software (Microsoft Project or similar).
• Design experience in high‑voltage substation and transmission projects.
• Experience creating quality technical solutions for major power delivery projects.
• Commitment to business performance, continuous improvement, and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree strongly preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Inventor.
• Experience with structural engineering finite element software.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $110,000 to $140,000, dependent on experience and geographic location.
