Job description

Senior Structural Engineer - Consulting Engineering Firm - Base Salary to 160k/year - Gaithersburg, MD

Our client is a consulting structural engineering firm specializing in the repair and rehabilitation of structures, structural elements, and waterproofing systems. They are a smaller, non-corporate organization that has been around for 25 years, working on commercial buildings, parking garages, condos, and apartments throughout the Beltway area. They offer a flexible, collaborative work environment with room for growth.

In this role, the Senior Structural Engineer will be working in the field, in the office, and from home depending on the project status. The Senior Structural Engineer will also be leading internal engineering teams of 5-8 staff. Experience in structural engineering in rehabilitation, repair, and waterproofing is required; and possess a PE in any state, with ability to quickly obtain for MD, VA, and DC is required.

Responsibilities:
  • Wear multiple hats, working on both the technical, client, and construction sides
  • Collaborate with existing engineering team while managing multiple projects in different stages of development
  • Provide mentorship and team leadership to the existing engineering team, including Structural Engineers down to Interns
  • Perform as a hands-on Engineer, visiting sites throughout VA, DC, and MD (~30%) and communicating with clients
  • Perform analysis and design, investigation, evaluation, and diagnostic testing of existing building structures, exterior enclosures, and building components within systems
  • After client inspection, prepare bids and proposals
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with property managers and clients, as well as staff
  • Work efficiently from the field, home, and office, collaborating frequently with internal teams
Qualifications:
  • 8+ years’ experience in rehabilitation of structural and building envelope systems, including exterior enclosures, waterproofing systems, parking garages, and other commercial structures
  • Licensed PE for Maryland, Virginia, Washington required (or EIT with ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Proficiency in engineering software. AutoCAD, Revit, ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, Ansys, Office, and Acrobat are all used
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Base salary in the 140k - 160k/year range
