Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an accomplished Structural Engineer based in Paarl, Western Cape, to lead complex design projects for commercial buildings and multi-storey structures. You will ensure structural integrity and collaborate with architects and construction teams to bring innovative concepts to life.

The ideal candidate holds a BEng/BSc in Structural or Civil Engineering, Pr Eng registration with ECSA, and a minimum of seven years of post-graduate experience focusing on commercial projects.

Qualifications

• BEng or BSc in Structural/Civil Engineering with a structural specialization.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• Minimum 7 years of post-graduate experience in structural design with a focus on commercial projects.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of concrete, steel, timber, and masonry design.
• Excellent understanding of building codes and construction practices in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze the structural framework of buildings and other construction projects using advanced engineering principles.
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, and calculations for various types of construction (e.g., concrete, steel, masonry).
• Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other consultants throughout the design and construction phases.
• Conduct site inspections to verify structural installations and resolve on-site issues.
• Ensure all designs comply with the National Building Regulations (NBR) and relevant South African standards.
• Perform structural assessments and forensic investigations for existing buildings.
• Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and design methodologies in structural engineering, particularly those relevant to the Western Cape construction landscape.
• Manage structural engineering aspects of multiple projects concurrently, ensuring timely delivery.
