Join to apply for the Senior Structural Engineer 1 - Grid role at Sargent & Lundy

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days in-office and two days remote.

The position involves applying knowledge of materials, structural analysis, steel and concrete design, working on power transmission modifications, and creating calculations, design documents, and specifications.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Investigating and solving a variety of structural engineering issues.
  2. Performing structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations.
  3. Developing integrated structural designs with supporting calculations.
  4. Communicating technical information with clients.
  5. Preparing technical specifications for structural materials.
  6. Reviewing work by others, including calculations and drawings.
  7. Coordinating with engineers, project managers, clients, and suppliers.
  8. Reviewing existing facilities for upgrades and presenting findings.
  9. Sharing knowledge through peer-learning and communities of practice.
  10. Traveling for design reviews and field verifications.

Qualifications include:

  • BSCE or MSCE from an ABET-accredited program.
  • At least five years of experience, preferably in electrical substation design.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to perform site visits and walk-downs.
  • Experience in structural calculations and documentation.
  • Proficiency with relevant software (e.g., MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, RISA Floor).
  • Knowledge of design codes like IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.

Preferred but not required: PE license, experience with light industrial structures.
