We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our team and support the design, review, and coordination of projects. The ideal candidate will have strong structural engineering fundamentals, experience with residential construction, and the ability to work collaboratively with architectural and MEP teams.
About the Role
The Structural Engineer will be responsible for performing structural design and engineering calculations for new construction, renovations, additions, and existing residential structures.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural design and engineering calculations for new construction, renovations, additions, and existing residential structures.
- Review architectural and structural plans for design accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and coordination issues.
- Develop and review structural calculations for foundations, slabs, beams, columns, walls, roof systems, connections, and other structural components.
- Prepare and modify structural drawings and details using Revit.
- Coordinate structural designs with Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Civil disciplines.
- Participate in interdisciplinary coordination meetings and identify and resolve conflicts between structural and other building systems.
- Review existing conditions and determine appropriate structural solutions for renovations and additions.
- Respond to project redlines, RFIs, plan review comments, and construction-related questions.
- Review shop drawings and other structural submittals as required.
- Assist with field/site visits to verify existing conditions and address structural issues during construction.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable Florida Building Code (FBC), ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NDS, and other applicable standards.
- Manage assigned projects and coordinate with internal team members to meet project schedules and submission deadlines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional experience in structural engineering with a strong background in residential projects.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit is required.
- Strong ability to perform and document structural engineering calculations and analysis.
- Experience reviewing and coordinating architectural, structural, and MEP construction documents.
- Knowledge of concrete, masonry, steel, and wood-framed construction.
- Familiarity with residential renovations, additions, and new construction.
- Strong understanding of building codes and structural design standards.
- Ability to independently review plans, identify coordination/design issues, and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Florida residential projects and the Florida Building Code.
- Experience with structural analysis/design software in addition to Revit.
- EIT or PE license is preferred but may not be required depending on experience.
