Job summary

Stratus is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead projects across industrial facilities, focusing on detailed engineering and coordination with other disciplines.

The role requires a BSc in civil or structural engineering with 10+ years of petrochemical/oil & gas experience, PE license (SE preferred) or commitment to obtain. Proficiency in RISA-3D and STAAD is expected. Strong client communication and QA/QC are essential.

Qualifications

  • BSc in civil or structural engineering with minimum of 10 years’ experience in petrochemical, oil & gas, power generation and/or metallurgical/mineral process industries. MSc a plus.
  • PE license required with SE highly preferred or commitment to acquire within one year. Ability to register with NCEES and in other States of company practice.
  • Proficiency with structural engineering and design software (e.g., RISA-3D, STAAD) required.
  • Ability to lead quality management of discipline work processes and deliverables.
  • Experience with site civil design, including grading, drainage, and stormwater collection/management.

  • Coordinate and review structural shop drawings and data; interface with suppliers and other disciplines.
  • Prepare construction drawings and specification packages; support calculation packages.

The Role

Stratus has recently partnered with Kestrel Engineering and we’re hiring a Sr. Structural Engineer for various locations. This role includes support for all project phases, with particular focus in detailed engineering. Position will be assigned as structural engineering lead for projects and will be responsible for coordination and ensuring effective communications with other engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Research, plan, and design structural solutions for a wide range of industrial facilities. Responsible for completing structural analysis and design of complex structures fabricated from structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and wood, and design of complex foundations, including pile‑ and soil‑supported. Also responsible for considerations of environmental loading conditions, including locations with high seismic and/or wind requirements.
  • Responsible for development or coordination of site civil design for a wide range of industrial facilities.
  • Responsible for review of structural shop drawings and data. Interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines and designers.
  • Responsible for preparation of construction drawing and specification packages as well as supporting calculation packages.
  • Responsible for QA/QC checking of projects completed by other engineers.
Qualifications
  • BSc in civil or structural engineering with minimum of 10 years’ experience in the petrochemical, oil & gas, power generation and/or metallurgical/mineral process industries. MSc a plus.
  • PE license required with SE highly preferred or the commitment to acquire within one year. Ability to register with NCEES and in other States of company practice required.
  • Proficiency with structural engineering and design software (e.g., RISA‑3D, STAAD) required.
  • Ability to lead quality management of discipline work processes and deliverables.
  • Ability to develop specifications for and interpret results from geotechnical investigations.
  • Experience in vibration analysis and large rotating equipment foundation design a plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable model codes addressing structural design/engineering (e.g., ACI, IBC, AISC, ANSI, ASCE).
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Capable of working directly with clients from proposal development through project execution.
  • Previous consulting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with site civil design, including grading, drainage, and stormwater collection/management.
  • Familiarity with developing/coordinating site survey data and interpretation/use in developing design drawings.
Preferred
  • Eligibility to obtain or currently hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
