Job summary

Axis Companies in Roswell, GA is seeking a mid-level to senior structural engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate is a GA-licensed professional engineer with 10+ years of structural design experience, ready to lead projects from concept to construction.

You will oversee complex designs for steel, concrete, masonry, and timber systems, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with architects, MEP, and civil engineers to deliver safe, compliant, and constructible solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Technical design & analysis – lead the structural design of various projects, performing advanced analysis and calculations for steel, concrete, masonry, timber, and light gauge metal systems.
  • Renovation & retrofit – oversee condition assessments, forensic investigations, and the design of remedial repairs for existing building structures.
  • Seismic & lateral analysis – perform advanced seismic evaluations and wind load assessments specifically for building frames and equipment supports.
  • Multidisciplinary coordination – collaborate with architects, MEP and civil engineers, contractors, and project owners to align with the facility’s goals.
  • Project management – manage project budgets, schedules, resource allocation to ensure timely delivery of deliverables.
  • Quality assurance – perform technical reviews and sign/seal construction documents as Engineer of Record.
  • Mentorship – provide guidance to junior engineers to foster growth.
  • Client engagement – act as a primary technical resource for clients.

We are currently seeking a mid-level to senior-level structural engineer to work alongside an exceptional team of professionals in our Roswell, Georgia office. The ideal candidate will be a licensed professional engineer in the state of Georgia (and willing to pursue licensure in additional states) with 10+ years of experience in structural engineering.

As a senior structural engineer, you will serve as a technical lead, overseeing the design and analysis of complex structural systems for diverse building types. You will be responsible for projects from initial concept through construction completion, ensuring they are safe, innovative, and compliant with all relevant building codes. This role requires a blend of advanced technical expertise, project management, and mentorship of junior engineering staff.

Typical Responsibilities:
  • Technical design & analysis – lead the structural design of various projects, performing advanced analysis and calculations for steel, concrete, masonry, timber, and light gauge metal systems
  • Renovation & retrofit – oversee condition assessments, forensic investigations, and the design of remedial repairs for existing building structures
  • Seismic & lateral analysis – perform advanced seismic evaluations and wind load assessments specifically for building frames and equipment supports
  • Multidisciplinary coordination – collaborate closely with architects, MEP and civil engineers, contractors, and project owners to align with the facility’s aesthetic and functional goals and deliver fully integrated and constructible designs
  • Project management – manage project budgets, schedules, resource allocation to ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables
  • Quality assurance – perform technical quality reviews of work developed by others and sign/seal construction documents as the Engineer of Record
  • Mentorship – provide guidance and training to junior- and mid-level engineers to foster their professional growth and ensure technical excellence
  • Client engagement – act as a primary technical resource and liaison for clients, presenting complex solutions and maintaining strong professional relationships
Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in structural design using steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and light gauge metal
  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with emphasis in structural design required
  • Active professional engineer (Georgia PE required); structural engineer (SE) license preferred, or willingness to pursue
  • Experience with current AISC Manual, ASCE7-16, ACI 318-14 and 2018 IBC
  • Experience with structural analysis software (RAM, ENERCALC, and STAAD)
  • Experience with building-focused software including, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; Experience with Revit is a plus
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Leading a project team of junior and mid-level engineers from concept through construction documents
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal skills, verbal communication skills and problem-solving ability is essential in your work with multi-disciplinary team members and clients; a strong work ethic is required
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, with an ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimum supervision and high personal standards for quality control
  • Solid writing skills required for the preparation of proposals, correspondence, reports, and related project documentation
  • Must be highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks, demonstrating a flexible approach to work assignments
Desired Skills:
  • Experience in adaptive reuse or heritage building restoration
  • Experience with post-tensioned concrete or specialized industrial foundation design
  • Strong seller-doer mindset with experience in proposal writing and client relationship management
