As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will apply your technical knowledge of structural design across a portfolio of ground‑breaking projects in the US and around the world. Strong communication skills and teamwork are essential to life at BuroHappold.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and verify detailed engineering designs, drawings, documents and specifications.
- Undertake detailed engineering design for gravity and lateral systems of building structures.
- Take the lead in managing project development and deliverables with the team.
- Review project work and deliverables to meet expected high levels of quality against project schedules.
- Guide and help develop less experienced team members to achieve project success and team goals.
- Create 3D structural analysis models using commercial software (RAM, SAP, ETABS, SAFE, etc.).
- Set up, manage and review job/project administrative systems, including planning and monitoring job resourcing/expenditure.
- Attend and participate in meetings with the client and other design team members under project leadership guidance.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of innovative structural building engineering design experience.
- Relevant master’s degree.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license; Structural Engineer (S.E.) is a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of US Building Codes and Professional Standards, especially seismic design.
- Broad structural design knowledge from working on a wide range of projects.
- Experience designing steel, concrete and mass timber building structures.
- Experience in performance‑based seismic design and seismic devices (base isolation, hysteretic/viscous dampers, etc.) is a plus.
- Good working experience with BIM tools such as Revit.
- Passion for sustainability and reducing environmental impact on projects.
- Willingness to learn computation design methods (Rhino, Grasshopper) is a plus.
- Confident and proactive character with ability to accept high responsibility in a team‑based organization and to work independently.
Benefits and Compensation
- Salary range: $95,000 to $115,000.
