Job summary

Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking a Senior structural designer to provide BIM modeling and design/document creation for foundations and steel structures. The role emphasizes coordination with Structural Design Engineers and other disciplines to drive collaboration, standards, and tool development.

The position supports multiple US locations and will start remote for Chattanooga, TN, transitioning to hybrid/in-office as the office is established.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a CAD vocational training program.
  • 9+ years of structural design experience using Tekla.
  • Ability to interpret multi-discipline engineering and vendor documents.
  • Leadership and confidence to monitor peers in drafting and design.
  • Basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with team members.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing programs.
  • Professional representation of Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. to owners, contractors, vendors and others.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with design group team members to review and exchange project information.
  • Check design for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements.
  • Report task progress to Lead Designer.
  • Gathers required information and collaborate with engineers and multiple disciplines to develop BIM models for foundations and steel structures.

  • Assist in the development of department standards and tools.
  • Mentors other team members in design and modeling techniques.

Position Overview

Kiewit Power Engineering Group is seeking a Senior structural designer, in this role you should have a good understanding of design modeling, design drawing/document creation, and data exchange using Building Information Modeling (BIM). Candidates are expected to have experience in foundation and steel design.

The ideal candidates will grow with the team by helping to establish, maintain, and improve standards and tools while contributing to project success. Candidates are expected to be a technical resource for less experienced designers and engineers. Candidates must be comfortable working closely with Structural Design Engineers and other discipline team members to drive coordination and collaboration.

Location

This position can be based in any of the following office locations: Lenexa, KS; Houston, TX; Raleigh, NC; or Phoenix/Tempe, AZ.

For roles in Chattanooga, TN; Detroit, MI; or Richmond, VA, the position will start remotely and transition to a hybrid/in office arrangement once the new office is established.

  • Must have a basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and constructively with other team members and disciplines both verbally and in written form.

  • Knowledge of basic spreadsheet, database, word processing programs.

  • Must be able to represent Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. in a professional manner to owners, contractors, vendors and any other contacts outside the Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. organization.
