Job summary

Zachry Group is seeking a Stress Engineer IV for the Downers Grove Design Center. You will perform formal and informal stress analyses, coordinate with designers, and lead engineering activities for major projects.

Requirements include a mechanical engineering degree and 10+ years in mechanical stress engineering, with ASME and CAESAR II experience. Travel to client sites may be required; competitive salary and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical stress engineering.
• 7+ years in Petroleum Refining, Chemical or Power Industry.
• Experience with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and pumps.
• Experience with ASME Section I and VIII, B31.1 and B31.3.
• Experience with CAESAR II, FEATools and NozzlePRO.
• Ability to function as a qualified checker across clients and projects.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare design concepts, technical documents, and drawing checks.
• Strong communication skills for inter-discipline coordination.
• Must be organized, self-directed, able to multi-task.
• Willingness to travel and work in office and field.
• Commitment to safety, quality, responsibility, high work standards.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze piping systems for thermal flexibility, vibration, supports.
• Ensure piping conform to codes and client standards.
• Perform ASME B31.1 and B31.3 formal CAESAR II analyses.
• Conduct informal stress analyses for piping systems.
• Work with designers to optimize pipe routing and supports.
• Specify engineered supports and review vendor equipment design documents.
• Evaluate piping loads on process equipment nozzles and vessels.
• Prepare formal stress evaluation reports.
• Perform field surveys to collect data and interpret drawings.
• Communicate technical solutions with other stress engineers.
• Interpret new regulations and update procedures.
• Perform special studies (new tech, constructability, etc.).
• Lead engineer for portfolio clients and large capital projects.
• Coordinate with supervisor and project team.
• Assist in proposals.
• Attend client, vendor, internal meetings.
• Manage project schedules and budgets; provide weekly status reports.
• Other duties as assigned.
