Job summary

GLAD Law (GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders) seeks an Assistant Director of Strategic Communications and Content to lead high-level writing and strategic communications that advance LGBTQ+ rights and GLAD Law’s legal and policy goals. The role requires translating complex legal developments into compelling narratives across formats and audiences.

This full-time, exempt position reports to the Director of Communications and Public Education, oversees communications interns, and collaborates with

Qualifications

• Six or more years of professional experience in communications, journalism, public affairs, or related field.
• Exceptional clear, accessible and engaging writing ability, including under deadline.
• Experience with messaging and narrative strategy that moves people to understanding.
• Understanding of evolving media landscape and fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and racial justice.
• Experience in legal, advocacy, policy, or nonprofit communications preferred.
• Ability to take initiative and work across teams in a high-stakes environment.

Responsibilities

• Draft, edit, and refine a high volume of written materials across formats.
• Maintain consistent organizational voice while adapting tone to audience and context.
• Develop and refine messaging frameworks and communications plans.
• Collaborate across departments to support litigation, policy, and development goals.
• Cultivate relationships with journalists, editors, creators, and outlets.
• Respond to press inquiries, pitch stories, coordinate interviews.
