Job summary

Planet is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to evolve the Storage platform that underpins the company\'s data infrastructure. You will work across the stack—from object storage and metadata indexing to event notification and disaster recovery—on systems that operate at massive scale.

You will advise teammates, own services, and contribute to the architectural direction while delivering reliable, searchable, and scalable data storage.

Qualifications

• 6–8 years of software engineering experience.
• Production backend services and APIs.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP).
• Relational and non-relational datastores experience.
• Excellent communication and remote collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain systems that provide efficient access to new and growing data sets.
• Extend and improve services for internal data search and image processing.
• Operate and tune Elasticsearch indexing for core data sets.
• Own services end-to-end, monitor performance, and respond to incidents.
• Lead project teams or oversee assignments of junior engineers.
• Contribute to the technical roadmap and architecture direction.
• Participate in design reviews and align on technical decisions.
